Gold Winner Vernon produced by Neil Andrews tells the story of Vernon who cannot take it anymore as madness overcomes him. Vernon has won for its producer a two-day secondment to the Gibson Group who is a leading producer of TV series and feature films in New Zealand.

The Flying Fives 2003/04 Silver Winner, and runner up to the Gold Award, and who will receive a two day secondment to New Zealand leading graphics and animation house Oktobor, was Untampered produced by Morag Brownlie.

Roadside produced by Annette Eggers was awarded the ‘Nelson Film Awards Development Trust’ Best Locally Produced Film and won for its producer the eMac from The Apple Division of Renaissance Limited.

International filmmaker and member of the supreme judging panel Joe Bini said “I think it’s wonderful that the awards in your festival take the form of professional access and training opportunities. In this way, next year's Flying Fives festival may feature a truly great film.”

New Zealand filmmaker Barry Barclay and member of the supreme judging panel said, “over-all, though, the material in the final selection was first rate, and I had a wonderful time working through it.”

The Bronze Winners who will receive mentoring with one of the following leading New Zealand film makers: Mike Horton; Yvonne MacKay; Brian Shennan or Alun Bollinger are: Table 38 produced by Emma Papaconstaninou, Knocking 9 Doors produced by George Kouvaras, and Being John Campbell produced by John Ong and Arthur Meek.

The Flying Fives Awards were announced last night at a special ceremony in Nelson. The public screening for the 19 finalists Sunday 4 April was sold out. However New Zealand will get the chance to see the Flying Fives when the Rialto Channel screens a special Flying Fives show Saturday 1 May at 7.45.
